Annual ALGIM Conference 20-23 November 2011

Bayview Wairakei Resort, Taupo, New Zealand

ALGIM is excited to announce that technical training will be held around the implementation of IPv6. The intensive 12 hour training programme, held over three days, will be run alongside the 2011 Annual ALGIM Conference at Bayview Wairaki Resort in Taupo.

ALGIM has committed itself to producing a whitepaper on IPv6 (Internet Protocol version 6) adoption within Local Government, which will be presented ahead of the training. ALGIM enjoys 100% membership of Local Authorities and with this level of support it can make a difference in advising and promoting areas of concern for the sector, such as IPv6.

IPv6 is the next generation of Internet Protocol as all addresses on the IPv4 protocol have almost been exhausted. Every internet-capable computer or device needs a numeric IP address to be able to connect to the global Internet. Most computers and devices connect using the IPv4 address standard which allows for over four billion addresses. The number of internet-enable devices, however, is growing so quickly that soon there won’t be enough IPv4 addresses to go around. Therefore, IPv6 was created, enabling 340 billion billion billion billion addresses.

The training will be led by Steve Golden, Technical Trainer at Auldhouse. Auldhouse is the premier training partner for many of New Zealand's major companies and government departments. The training will cover topics such as: ·

  • How to configure IPv6 on a small network ·
  • How to debug IPv6 ·
  • How to start the IPv6 deployment ·
  • How to handle IPv4 run out ·
  • How to manage basic IPv6 on servers and websites

Participants will leave with enough information and knowledge to get started with implementing IPv6 into their networks and how to build a fully functioning IPv6 lab.

Requirements | Programme participants are required to: ·

  • Understand IPv4 addresses ·
  • Possess a basic knowledge of a subnet mask in IPv4 · Have some knowledge of DNS, DHCP ·
  • Hold CCNA level or higher (or equivalent experience) ·
  • Provide a laptop that is IPv6 compatible Windows or Linux to be used in the training

Full attendance of the entire training programme as scheduled in the 2011 Annual ALGIM Conference programme is highly recommended. A certificate of participation will be presented to those who complete the full training programme offered by ALGIM.

ALGIM is able to offer the training to those interested at Annual Conference prices. If you register before Tuesday 25 October, you will be eligible for the Conference Early Bird rate of $1000 (members) and $1400 (non-members). Registration fees are exclusive of GST. A training programme of this nature normally retails around $2000 - $3000.

As well as receiving training, participants will also be entitled to attend all other Conference activities at no extra cost. The Conference provides a great opportunity to network with, and share and gain knowledge from your peers. As with Conference delegates, training attendees will be responsible for securing their own accommodation.
