Gissa to Present at 2012 ALGIM GIS Symposium

Thursday 15 March 2012

2012 ALGIM GIS Symposium 2 & 3 April 2012

James Cook Hotel Grand Chancellor, Wellington

ALGIM is proud to announce that George Havakis, Managing Director of Gissa, is to present at the 2012 ALGIM GIS Symposium.

Gissa is an Australian management consultancy, specialising in the development of spatial information systems. The organisation works with commercial and government managers to map and integrate data management systems.

George has over 28 years experience including 17 years direct experience in the Geospatial Industry acting as a consultant/adviser to government and business.

During his presentation, “A-SPEC Digital Data Specifications | An Initiative For Asset Owners”, George will be joined during the presentation by Haydn Read, Strategic Planning Manager for Wellington City Council to discuss how A-SPEC proposes to “localise” the current and future specifications for New Zealand in conjunction with the Council.

A-SPEC is an initiative for asset owners to develop a standardised approach for the recording of asset information in collaboration with industry.

The A-SPEC standard was developed to streamline the processes undertaken to display all new assets within local authority Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Asset Management Systems (AMS).

A common specification for the supply of digital data was identified as a major opportunity for the consortia members to achieve efficiency and cost savings in the process of maintaining their corporate Geographic Information Systems and Asset Management Systems.

This presentation will describe the issues associated with adopting a standardised approach to asset recording and what lessons have been learned along the way. The internal and external benefits of data models and specifications and their important link to meeting business needs will also be addressed.
