2012 ALGIM Web Symposium 7 & 8 May 2012

ALGIM is excited to announce that James McGlinn, Co-Founder & Chief Technology Officer for Eventfinder, will present at the 2012 ALGIM Web Symposium.

James is an experienced web developer and entrepreneur with a successful 12 year track record in management of Internet enterprises. In 1998 he founded one of New Zealand's earliest web hosting firms, allowing him to accumulate a wealth of knowledge of web architectures in parallel with his university studies. Shortly after his graduation from university he exited the hosting company through a trade sale to an Australian web host.

He founded, and now facilitates, the New Zealand PHP Users Group, an active network of over 850 local web developers and is a Zend Certified Engineer (PHP4/PHP5). He’s a member of the PHP Security Consortium (an international group of PHP experts dedicated to promoting secure programming practices within the PHP community), NatColl’s Curriculum Advisory Group and Media Design School’s Industry Panel. James is also on the PHP documentation team.

In 2004 James graduated from the University of Auckland with both a Bachelor of Science (majoring in Computer Science) and a Bachelor of Commerce (with a double major in Information Systems and Operations Management).

Building on his previous successes, James then founded Nerds Inc., an Auckland-based web development consultancy. Nerds Inc. worked with Top 200 clients to refine and implement their online strategies. In 2007 he again exited through a trade sale that re-branded the company Blink Interactive, a firm which continues today with many of the same customers, staff and partners.

James was the founder of Auckland's Tech Startup Drinks, a community hosting regular networking meetings of early stage technology founders and CEOs. He has presented and been a panelist at a number of technology conferences on topics ranging from web development to information security to cloud computing.

In 2006 James joined Michael Turner in building Eventfinder - a world class integrated event marketing, syndication and ticketing platform. The Eventfinder Platform makes it easy for event promoters, organisers and venues to list their events for free, have that information distributed to a range of content syndication partners, and control their own ticket sales, reporting and validation using award-winning SaaS tools.

In New Zealand, the Eventfinder website is the country’s leading source for event and live entertainment information, and is a Top 20 ranked website (Nielsen NetRatings). Eventfinder New Zealand is the exclusive supplier of syndicated event content to the largest media websites in the country, including Yahoo!, MSN, NZ Herald and Fairfax, with a further 100+ syndication arrangements with other online media and print publications. The Eventfinder Platform has been successfully licensed in Europe and Australia, and the company is currently preparing to launch in the United States.

In his presentation, James will discuss why event information is so important, the numerous benefits and ease of integrating Eventfinder content with both new and existing websites, and will share his experience in successfully implementing online event calendars. He will also encourage feedback from delegates on issues faced around events and online event promotion, and explore how Eventfinder helps solve some of the more common issues faced.
