2011 Annual ALGIM Conference

The 31st Annual ALGIM Conference was held 20 - 23 November 2011 at the Bayview Wairakei Resort, State Highway One, Taupo, New Zealand. 

This year’s conference combined ALGIM’s key areas and acquainted delegates with numerous exhibitor stands, best practice local government case studies, workshops, overseas experiences, networking opportunities, international and national speakers, and a prestigious national awards programme. The event showcased leading local government innovation - both nationally and internationally.

The Annual ALGIM Conference has been heralded by attendees as the best event for interacting and obtaining knowledge.  This year continued to deliver outstanding value to its sponsors, exhibitors, vendors and ALGIM members – the local authorities of New Zealand.

Conference Highlights Included:

• ALGIM’s Whitepaper on IPv6 Adoption within Local Government was presented by Dr Murray Milner, Convenor of the NZ IPv6 Taskforce.
• Former All Black and International Rugby Legend, Sir Colin Meads inspired attendees with his story.
• International guest Harry Turnbull (Director of IT - City of Windsor, Canada), on the mobile workforce, and IT standards vs. consumer devices.
• Tony Krzyzewski from Kaon Technologies Ltd presented on mobile security on devices such as i-Pads and Androids.
• The Copyright Law Reform: 3 Strikes and You're Out?  John Edwards, Information & Privacy Law Specialist
• Practical Disaster Recovery: Robin Johansen CIO of Beca Group outlined lessons learnt through from the natural disasters of the Pacific in 2011 – the Queensland flood and Christchurch earthquakes.

• NZ Council finalists for the 2011 ALGIM Innovation Awards presented their case studies.

2011 ALGIM Innovation Awards

The use of technology in our organisations is continually expanding.  There are many innovative solutions being designed and implemented which are worth sharing for the benefit of the local government ICT sector as a whole.

The ALGIM Innovation Awards recognise and celebrate best practice within local government information technology and information management.  They aim to encourage local authorities to be innovative and to exercise technological leadership through services to its community.  The awards also promote the image of local government ICT throughout the wider community.
